From the YH at High Gillerthwaite, walk the short distance east along the road to the forestry cabin. Cross the stile & take the path on the left up through a clearing in the trees. Cross the beck & keep to east bank, following the path up the gully. After reaching the ridge walk the short distance to the summit of Red Pike with fine views of Crummack Water, Buttermere & the head of Ennerdale. Continue east to the summit of High Stile. To complete a circular route, continue on east to the summit of High Crag before descending Gamlin End (a steep but well maintained path) to Scarth Gap. Follow the path south-west back into Ennerdale (avoiding the left hand fork which takes you to Black Sail YH). After reaching the road along the valley bottom, you head west back to the YH at High Gillerthwaite.

A good walk with excellent views on a fine day. We did this on a Bank Holiday weekend & saw very few people apart from on the tops.
