An intesting walk along the Rhumney Ridgeway from Ystrad Mynach to Pontlottyn. The ridgeway is not walked much here, in places access maybe tricky, especially in winter, however it follows a fair bit of road in this section. There are no major issues, except that Pontlottyn is a well rough place, so becareful.

There are some great places of interest, Capel Brithdir is quite captivating, & the Roman Practice works at ST 136 992 . The views from Cefn Brithdir of the Beacons are brilliant, on a good day, if overcast, should be clear, the views are excellent.

From the Train Station make your way to the Cycle route 47 heading towards Nelson. Follow the cycle track past ponds & new lakes, keep to the track until you get to ST 127 953. Follow this track/road up hill & lookout for pylongs to help with navigation, get to ST 129 959 where you can pickup the ridgeway path. The stile is not obvious, but it's in amoungst the tree's under pylong cables. Follow the path over fields to Gelligaer village. Watch out at ST 130 959 paths are confusing. Find access to field by tree/bush & rusty horizontal scaffold poles making a makeshift stile. Keep to the ridgeway,
it's not well way marked at SO 138 021, so keep your eyes peeled for a makeshift bridge which is amonst trees. Explore Capel Brithdir at SO 138 025 it's an interesting place. Follow ridgeway down to Pontlottyn along tarmac road on Cefn Brithdir, then to Pontlottyn train station. Trains are once an hour here, Pontlottyn is a rough town so take care if you arrive late in the evening.
